Marler's misconduct hearing set for April 5

England prop Joe Marler will have his misconduct hearing over his "gypsy boy" comment towards Wales' Samson Lee on April 5, World Rugby has confirmed.

Marler initially went unpunished for insulting Lee in England's 25-21 Six Nations win this month after apologising to his opponent at half-time at Twickenham.

However, World Rugby judged that Marler contravened the laws of the game and that his comments "amount to misconduct".

Subsequently the governing body has set Marler's hearing for a week on Tuesday.

A World Rugby statement read: "World Rugby can confirm that the Joe Marler misconduct hearing is scheduled to take place on 5 April in London.

"The case will be heard by an independent judicial committee, assembled by the independent judicial chairman in accordance with World Rugby Regulation 18.

"The committee will comprise Terry Willis [chair, Australia], Jean-Noel Couraud [France] and Alan Hudson [Canada]."
