Bristol sign Super Rugby champion Woodward

Bristol have completed the signing of full-back Jason Woodward from Super Rugby champions Hurricanes.

Woodward started on the wing in Hurricanes 20-3 Super Rugby Final victory over Lions in August and has made 43 appearances in the competition since his debut for Melbourne Rebels in October 2013.

The 26-year-old has represented New Zealand at Under-20 level and will link up with the Premiership team at the start of November.

"I felt it was the right time for me to come and experience playing in a new environment and Bristol Rugby is the right fit for me," Woodward told the club's official website.

"It's a great club with a big supporter base and a city that is passionate about rugby. I'm looking forward to working with the coaches and players that Bristol have here.

"To sign off from my time at the Hurricanes with a Super Rugby title was a fitting way to finish and now I'm excited about testing myself against quality opposition in the top flight of England."

Bristol director of rugby Andy Robinson added: "Jason is an excellent acquisition for Bristol Rugby and a player who has consistently impressed in the Super Rugby competition.

"He's quick, solid under the high ball and has a strong kicking game. For Jason, this is a fresh challenge for him and we know he'll be determined to make his mark in the Premiership."

Bristol suffered a narrow 21-19 defeat to Harlequins in their opening Premiership match, before going down 32-10 to Northampton Saints on Sunday.
