Cipriani convicted of drink-driving

England international Danny Cipriani was handed an 18-month driving ban on Friday after being convicted of drink-driving at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Fly-half Cipriani, most recently capped by his country last August but out of favour since the appointment of Eddie Jones, crashed his Mercedes into a taxi on June 1, 2015.

He admitted to drinking two espresso martinis and a glass of champagne less than an hour before being arrested, but nevertheless claimed to be "shocked" when he failed a breathalyser test.

In addition to being banned from driving for 18 months, Cipriani was fined £4,500 and ordered to pay a further £3,120 in costs.

The 28-year-old has 21 days to appeal.

Cipriani will play for Wasps again in 2016-17, after ending his stint with Sale Sharks.
