Brits handed three-week suspension

Saracens will be without Schalk Brits for the next three weeks after he admitted punching Nick Wood during last weekend's Premiership clash with Gloucester.

Brits was sent off by referee Craig Maxwell-Keys after 30 minutes at Allianz Park as leaders Saracens won 25-12, the South African dismissed after an altercation with Wood following a ruck.

The pair tangled after Wood cleared Brits out of the way as Gloucester pushed towards the Saracens line, and as they grappled on the turf the latter landed a punch on his rival.

After consulting with the video referee Maxwell-Keys dismissed Brits, and a Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel have determined his punishment.

"The charge against Schalk Brits of Saracens for punching or striking contrary to Law 10.4(a), was heard last night," a statement released on the Premiership website read.

"Brits was sent off by referee Craig Maxwell-Keys in the first half of last weekend's Premiership match between Saracens and Gloucester for punching Nick Wood.

"The player pleaded guilty and is suspended for three weeks. He is free to play again on 15 March 2016."
